Vectra R.I.P.

As in Rust In Peace.

My old Vauxhall Vectra finally gave up on me this week. Pulling away from the toll booths on the M6 Toll road, the cambelt snapped. As I was running at about 70mph at the time, there is likely to be a lot of internal engine damage, especially to the valves and possibly valve guides.

The sad thing is that the cambeld should have been changed recently when the head gasket was done but the bloody garage failed to do this. I’m also not getting any help from thegarage as they claim the owner at the time is no longer trading there and they are under new management. Not sure how true this is, but I’m still investigating this story.

So that car is being stripped of the valuable parts (CD changer, towbar etc) and any other easily sold parts. The rest is likely to be sold as a ‘spares or repair’ with 12 months MOT!

We are now on the look out for a new car and will have to be car-less for a week or two now.
