Motorbike – preparations for MOT

I finally decided to have a look at my motorbike after the MOT expired in January. After stripping out the rear wheel, swingarm, chain and brake caliper I’ve found it needs a good clean and re-grease. The brake caliper has a seized piston and the lock-washer from the front sprocket nut had somehow disappeared and the nut was almost off!
I’ve got the new brake pads and a can of brake cleaner to start cleaning up the caliper, although I’m hoping I can free the piston as its not long had a complete rebuild. Guess it was the salt and muck on the roads from riding on the odd days I did get out over the winter. I’ve got a cheapo chain oiler on there but not had much luck with it and it also seems to make a lot of mess on the swingarm and wheel so its going to be ditched and I’ll go back to regular chain lube from a can.

Once the rear end is back together, I’ll give the front a quick check over and a clean of the front brake caliper and put it in for a test. All being well, it should be ready in time for some summer riding!
