Arduino – Open Source hardware

After reading a couple of articles in Linux Format on the Arduino board I have decided to buy my own and have a play! Hopefully I should receive it in the next week or so. In the meantime, check it out at the Arduino HomePage and UK supplier at Tinker.it. The boards are basically a small microcontroller with USB interface for program uploading, a bunch of digital and analogue inputs and outputs. It can be connected to a variety of other hardware such as LEDs, LCD displays, motors, stepper motors, switches and even a Ninendo Wii nunchuck controller to create some pretty interesting control inputs.

For the original article from Linux Format look for the PDF Hardware Hacking made easy on this page.

Quick update – my board arrived and I’ve hooked it up to a couple of LEDs and made them flash.
